For farmers across Ireland, effective feed budgeting is the key to meeting the needs of grazing dairy cows whilst optimising pasture use efficiency and maintaining pasture quality.
LIC Ireland offers Irish farmers a range of pasture management and feed budgeting tools by Jenquip, so feed for your dairy cows is optimised.
A range of manual and electronic platemeters, software and tools for accurate grass measurement and management. The electronic counter units for the EC-09 EC-10 and EC20 are also available as separate kits to upgrade all models of rising plate pasture meters (Manual, F100, F150, F200, F300, EC-09, Farmtracker).
An accurate, robust and easy-to-use rising plate pasture meter for measuring pasture cover in grass paddocks. The unique folding handle design and removable plate also make the Filip’s Manual Folding Platemeter easy to transport, store and carry between paddocks.
The Filip’s Electronic Folding Platemeter EC-09 and EC-10 are a little easier to use, although they do cost more. The instant readout is also great for training users to assess pasture cover ‘by eye’. All the calculations are done for you, so only a single value needs to be written down for each paddock.
The main elements of the two meters are identical – only the counters that differ. They’re both high quality, accurate and reliable rising platemeters and we don’t recommend one meter over the other. In the end, it comes down to personal preference and budget. The EC10 can be connected to a PC by USB cable and farm walk results downloaded whereas with the EC09 the results need to be manually entered into the PC.
The EC20 is the latest technology, whilst the actual unit and operation is very similar to the EC09 and 10 it has no digital display but connects to a smart phone and works via either an iOS or Android app. This works off GPS and the walk information is collected and automatically allocated to the paddock. Although more expensive these features make this our most popular model now.
The Ministry of Agriculture are offering grant aid on grass measuring equipment.
